Sabathia loses big game, what about big pay day?
C.C. Sabathia has been a hot topic on baseball blogs this week - with most of the chatter about his gritty performance to clinch the Wild Card for Milwaukee on three days' rest, whether or not he should be the N.L. Cy Young recipient, or how much the Yankees are going to spend in the offseason to land the soon-to-be free agent.
Well, after the Phillies tagged Sabathia for five earned in three-plus innings (he gave up only six earned the entire month of August...) C.C. had this to say, "You can blame this game squarely on me."
Apparently some bloggers are, and now they are suggesting it could cost him at the negotiating table when the Brewers' season ends.
Okay, this from the Elias Sports Bureau: Sabathia now has a career 7.92 earned run average in the postseason, which is the second highest in baseball history among the 254 pitchers who have thrown at least 25 postseason innings.
I get it - that is some serious ammunition. Sabathia was horrible last year against Boston, and he got lit up again last night.
To suggest, however, that after five career postseason starts Sabathia should be labeled a postseason failure, or to hint that his value on the free agent market took a serious hit because the Phillies beat him, somehow seems a bit extreme - especially after he pitched Milwaukee into the postseason to begin with.

Totally agree with your reasonable assessment of Sabathia (with periods!). He can hardly be labeled a postseason failure. And I, too, want to see Roger Maris in the HOF!
