Not what I had in mind
Two days ago a sweep was exactly what I had in mind. And now all I can think is, seriously? Not good. And I'm the one who said the starting pitching in this series favored the Braves.
After losing two straight to the, um, Padres, the Braves now trail the Giants, Rockies, and Marlins in the wild card standings - and the deficit is now 5.5 games behind frontrunner Colorado with only 36 left on the schedule.
I thought we were good last night when McCann went yard in the first. I really thought we were good when it was still 3-0 in the sixth. My old high school coach was almost never right, but he nailed this one: "There's no clock in baseball."
Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the schedule, which probably explains why I'm so depressed today. I'm just stunned the Padres scored 12 runs after the fifth inning. Absolutely stunned.
And of course, even if the Braves salvage one game tonight against San Diego, we still have that seven-game trip looming vs. Philly and Florida.
Anyway, let's at least get a win tonight . . . and then maybe we can think about how sweet it would be to go home for a three-game set vs. Cincinnati after a 6-1 road trip. I mean seriously, if the Padres can score 12 runs after the fifth . . . right??
